SYHL Discovery Guide

Hiking Library Discovery Guide

1) Mission:

* To nurture "Global-Ready" youths

* To promote interaction between the western and eastern talented youths and mentors.

* To promote "Family value and Legacy Education"

提倡家庭价值和传承教育:“修⾝⻬家治国平天下”

2) SMC Mentorship Model:

* "IMDM": Integrated Multi-Domains Mentorship

* To explore Power in Diversity: In each hike, there are 8-12 nationalities and cultures

* To explore Power in Inspiration: Each unique individual is an interesting book with vast experiences to be uncovered

3) Hiking and Pairing Format:

* Hiking Frequency and Distance: 2-4 hikes per month; 5-8km per hike

* Size of Participants: Limited to 20-30 youths (Y) and 20-30 Speaker / Guest Mentors (M); M-to-Y ratio is 1:1

* Interaction during hiking: pairing of 1Y and 1M in a group, and exchange hiking partner every 1-1.5km; which allows for each person to read 4-5 "books" per hike

* Stop halfway or at the end of the hike for a 30 min speech (20 min speech; 10 min Q&A)

* Four-way Mentorship and Interaction: M-Y, Y-M, M-M, Y-Y

* Participants will be paired based on areas of interest and experience

4) Hiking Etiquette:

* Please refrain from using your phone unless for urgent matters

5) Youths' Note:

* Youths are encouraged to think of questions for mentors before the event so as to effectively extract the wisdom from them within the 1-1.5km pairing session

* Youths are challenged to sum up what they have learnt from the speaker and mentors. A LIFE LESSON / MOTTO (in their own understanding) that is targeted towards a significant area of their lives is preferred

* Youths are required to provide feedback of SYHL either through a reflection article and/or Feedback Q&A to inspire other youths

6) Mentors' Note:

* Mentors are encouraged to prepare 1-2 main points for fruitful sharing with fellow mentors and mentees

* Mentors' sharing could act as a great inspiration for the youths and act as a pivotal turning point for their mindset

* Mentors are encouraged to provide feedback of SYHL either through a reflection article and/or Feedback Q&A to encourage more mentors to take part in Hiking Library.
